Tendaba Camp (FB), Kwinella
Originally built in the 1970s as a hunting camp, Tendaba now attracts more people wielding
binoculars than rifles! The camp is located oppposite the Baobolong Wetlands - a Ramsar
site of international importance for birds. A boat trip through the mangrove creeks may
uncover such species as Blue-Breasted Kingfisher, Pel's Fishing Owl or the elusive African
Finfoot.
Accommodation is simple but clean and well looked after. We use their "VIP
rooms" which means you will have an en-suite shower & WC. The restaurant food is good and
true to their logo, bush pig frequently features on the menu.
Driving here can be a struggle given the very poor condition of the south bank road.
Fortunately for you, our Discover the River itineraries take the
scenic route: a 2 hour drive from the coast to Bintang - one hour of good roads & one hour of bad (with some
good birdwatching spots en-route) - before you join the Safari Queen for a relaxing 3 hour
boat trip to Tendaba with hopefully some good sightings of bottlenose dolphins and osprey fishing in
the river.
- Great location on the river
- Convenient half-way stop between the coast and Bird Safari Camp
- Salt water riverine habitat - mangroves, savanah & rice fields
- Swimming pool
- Close to BaoBolong Wetland Reserve and Kiang West National Park
